Ghizo Island contains the town Gizo, the capital of the Western Province. The island is 11 km long and 5 km wide, with a summit elevation of 180m (Maringe Hill).
Some of the best scuba diving is found in the region. These include wrecks and coral reef. In 1899 the Solomon Islands western provincial headquarters were established on Ghizo Island.
The main town on the island is called Gizo.
