Maramasike Island is located at the southern end of Malaita Island. It is separated from Malaita by a narrow channel only 400m wide. The island is also called small Malaita.
Maramasike covers 700 sq km and has an indented shoreline. At Hugnoli there is an archaeological site with stone similar to eastern Polynesia. At Walade Island, off NE Maramasike, dolphin teeth were used as a form of currency. In
1993 a tsunami damaged the road between Afio and Olusu'u on the southern coast.
John Seach has been providing unique tours to the Solomon Islands since 1989.
