Wagina Island, Solomon Islands
Choiseul Province

john

Wagina Island is located SE of Choiseul Island. It is inhabited by Micronesians who settled from Kiribati (previously called Gilbert Islands). The villages are situated on the southern side of the island. The other coastal areas contain swamps.

The island is a raised coral reef with a summit elevation of only 40 m above sea level. It covers an area of 86 sq km. Bauxite has been found on the island. Turtles breed and swim in the area, and locals catch them for food.
